A fountain pen asks for almost nothing — a rinse now and then, decent ink, a capped rest between sessions. Here is the entire maintenance manual, honestly.
Flush monthly
Draw cool water through the nib with the converter until it runs clear, then let the section dry nib-down on a cloth overnight. That is ninety percent of pen care.
Feed it honest ink
Stick to fountain pen inks — never india ink or calligraphy gouache, which cure solid inside the feed. If a bottle smells like a hardware store, it does not belong in a pen.
Cap it, always
An uncapped nib dries in minutes and starts hard next time. The click of the cap is part of the sentence ending.
Store nib-up for holidays
Leaving town for a month? Stand the pen nib-up or empty it entirely. Ink left sitting in the feed is the only way most pens ever break.
