Technical notes
Product detail
An air curtain works only if the jet still has velocity when it reaches the floor. Most curtains that disappoint were selected on width and mounting height and not on discharge velocity, and the jet has collapsed halfway down the opening.
Sizing the jet
We size on the opening height, the pressure difference across the doorway and the outdoor wind exposure. A doorway in a building running at negative pressure needs a stronger jet than the same doorway in a balanced building, because the curtain is fighting the induced flow as well as the temperature difference.
Mounting
Horizontal mounting above the opening is standard; vertical side-mounting is available where a lintel cannot carry the unit or where a fork truck mast passes close to the head of the opening.
Heating
Ambient, LPHW coil and electric heated versions. On a cold store threshold the ambient version is usually correct: heating the jet defeats the purpose of the barrier and adds load to the refrigeration plant on the other side.
Control
Door switch input as standard, so the curtain runs only while the door is open. Two-speed and EC variable-speed versions allow a lower night setting where the opening is used intermittently.
