AX-1000-AP

AX-1000 Adjustable-Pitch Axial Fan

A one-metre axial fan with blades that can be re-pitched at standstill, for systems whose resistance is not yet fixed at the design stage.

  • Blade pitch reset on site at standstill instead of throttling against a damper
  • Absorbed power falls with the blade angle, so part-load running costs less
  • Blade roots marked and clamped, with a balance re-check after any change
  • Bearing housings can be supplied with accelerometer mounting pads

Technical notes

Product detail

Tunnel, car park and large process extract systems are frequently commissioned before the final system resistance is known. The AX-1000 lets the blade angle be reset on site at standstill, which moves the whole fan curve rather than throttling the fan against a damper.

Why re-pitching beats throttling

Closing a damper to reduce flow adds resistance and burns the energy as heat and noise. Reducing the blade angle moves the fan onto a lower curve and reduces absorbed power. On a fan that runs continuously, the difference is the operating cost of the system.

Setting the pitch

Each blade root is marked and clamped. The blades are reset together to the same angle and the impeller is re-checked for balance before the fan is returned to service. This is a commissioning task, not a control method: the angle is not changed while the fan is running.

High temperature variants

Where the fan is required to run in elevated temperature for a defined period, the motor, bearing grease, cable and impeller material all change together. Any rated smoke-extract classification for this model requires third-party assessment. [Client to confirm which temperature/time classification, if any, has been assessed for this model and by which body.]

Vibration monitoring

Bearing housings can be supplied with mounting pads for accelerometers, so a condition-monitoring programme can be attached without drilling a fan that is already installed.
