RF-500-V

RF-500 Vertical Discharge Roof Extract Unit

A weatherproof roof unit that discharges upward and clear of the roof plane, for general building extract and car park ventilation.

  • Vertical discharge keeps exhaust away from roof intakes on still days
  • Cowl drains to the kerb, not into the duct below
  • Motor outside the airstream and ambient cooled
  • Hinged cowl with a stay, and a local isolator fitted as standard

Technical notes

Product detail

The RF-500 sits on a roof kerb and pushes the extracted air vertically, away from the roof surface and away from any intake nearby. Horizontal discharge units are cheaper and re-entrain their own exhaust on a still day, which is why we default to vertical on anything carrying an odour or a contaminant.

Weather and drainage

The cowl is drained back to the kerb rather than into the duct, so driven rain does not run down onto the ceiling below. The base flange matches a standard kerb pattern, and the fixings are stainless.

Motor position

The motor sits outside the extracted airstream and is cooled by ambient air. That is the arrangement you want for kitchen and car park extract, where the air passing through the fan is not something you want a motor winding to live in.

Isolation and service

A local isolator is fitted on the unit as standard. The cowl lifts on a hinge and stays open on a stay, so an impeller inspection does not require two people and a rope on a roof.

Speed control

Supplied ready for external speed control. Where a variable speed drive is used, confirm the cable length and screening arrangement with us at order; long unscreened runs to a roof are the usual cause of bearing currents in this application.
