The shade is hollowed from a single ash blank on the lathe until the wall at the rim is 3 mm thick — thin enough that the grain lights up from within and the rim reads as a warm amber ring rather than a hard edge. Ash was chosen for its bold ring-porous figure, which becomes legible only when it is backlit like this. The collar and rim band are unlacquered brass, left raw so they will dull to a soft bronze over a couple of years. Supplied with three metres of black braided flex and a matching ceiling rose.
Beacon Turned Pendant
$520
A shallow dome turned from one block of white ash, thin enough at the rim to glow amber from the inside.
