A bath mat gets stepped on wet, twice a day, and then left flat on a cold floor. That is the hardest job in the bathroom, and it is why this one is made as an all-cotton pile mat rather than a synthetic rug with a rubber back.
Why no rubber backing
Latex and rubber backings do stop a mat sliding, and they also stop it drying, trap water against the floor, and start to crumble after a year of hot washes. This mat has no backing at all. It washes with the towels, it dries on a rail, and there is nothing on it to perish.
On slippery floors
On polished stone or gloss tile an unbacked mat will move. If that describes your bathroom, put a thin non-slip underlay beneath it. We would rather say that than sell you a backing that fails.
Weight and size
1100 GSM at 50 x 80 cm, with a deep cut pile and rounded, overlocked corners. It is heavy for its size, which is the point: the density is what stops your foot going straight through to a cold floor. It is also why it needs a full day on a rail rather than an afternoon.
