Crane quotes stall when the inquiry is a paragraph of adjectives. Four numbers move a project from idea to drawing in one email.
1. Capacity — the honest maximum
Quote the heaviest real load plus rigging weight, not a someday number. Oversizing a crane oversizes the runway, the columns and the invoice.
2. Span — rail centre to rail centre
Span is measured between runway rails, not wall to wall. If the building exists, measure it; if not, send the column grid and we will work backwards.
3. Lift height — hook to floor
Count the tallest load, the tallest fixture under it, and clearance to spare. Low-headroom hoists claw back precious metres in existing buildings.
4. Duty — how hard, how often
Ten lifts a day and two hundred are different machines wearing the same paint. Duty class decides motors, gearing and structure — say how the crane will actually work.
