Screens emit a slice of high-energy visible light, and filtering lenses cut a portion of it before it reaches your eyes. Here is what that does and does not mean.
What the filter does
A coating or in-mass tint reduces some blue-violet wavelengths, which many wearers say makes long screen sessions feel less harsh — especially in the evening.
What it does not do
Blue-light lenses are comfort lenses, not a medical treatment, and no frame replaces an eye exam. If your eyes hurt, blur or water regularly, see a qualified eye-care professional.
Habits still matter
The old advice survives every lens technology: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds, and keep your screen slightly below eye level.
Where to start
If you want to try the category, our Focus frames carry the filtering lens in a clear or tortoise silhouette that works as a regular frame too.
