45 cm square after washing, in a mid-weight flax linen that is stonewashed before it is cut. That matters twice over. The cloth arrives soft instead of board-stiff, and it has already done most of its shrinking, so the first wash at home costs you a centimetre rather than five.
Weight and hem
The cloth is 165 g per square metre. Heavy enough to lie flat on a table and stay where you put it, light enough to fold small. Hemmed on all four sides with a 1 cm turned hem rather than an overlocked edge, which is the difference between a napkin that survives fifty washes and one that frays at the corners in a year.
Washing
Machine wash at 40 °C with like colours. Linen dries quickly and creases as a matter of course. If you want them flat, iron them while they are still damp. Tumble drying on low keeps them softer than line drying, at the cost of slightly more wear over years.
Colour
Piece-dyed after weaving, so the four napkins in a set are matched to each other. Dye lots between separate orders will differ slightly, in the same way glaze firings do.
Origin
[Client to confirm where the flax is grown, where the cloth is woven, and where the napkins are cut and hemmed.]
