Powercore builds diesel and gas generating sets for standby, prime and continuous duty, from 20 kVA single-building frames up to containerised units above 2000 kVA. We assemble on our own line, we test every set on a load bank before it ships, and we keep the test record against the serial number.
What we build
Six families: open frame diesel, soundproof canopy, containerised, gas, trailer mounted, and the automatic transfer switch panels that go with them. The rating and control philosophy are the same across all of them. What changes is the enclosure and what the site does to it.
Sizing comes first
Most of the sets that disappoint an owner were sized from a headline kVA number and nothing else. We ask for the load schedule, the largest motor and how it starts, the share of non-linear load, the duty class, and the site altitude and ambient temperature. Then we quote a rating. It is a slower conversation than sending a price list and it is the reason we rarely have to revisit a rating after commissioning.
Engine and alternator as a pair
An engine that can carry the running load is not automatically an engine that can carry the step. We check block-load acceptance, voltage dip and recovery against the actual starting case, and we select the alternator winding pitch and excitation method against the harmonic content the installation will present.
Testing
Every set runs on a resistive load bank in stepped increments to its full rating before it is released. Voltage and frequency regulation, temperature rise, fuel consumption and the alarm and shutdown functions are logged. The record goes into the file for that serial number and travels with the set.
Support
Filters, belts, AVRs, sensors and control boards are held for the models we have supplied and are matched to the serial number rather than to a model range, because a superseded component on a five-year-old set is a real risk and a generic parts list hides it.
