Chase the liquor ratio first
Every litre of liquor is heated, held and then sent to drain. Running vessels at their design fill, batching to match vessel size and questioning old recipe safety margins usually yields the largest single saving in the building — with zero capital.
Recover heat where it already flows
Hot drain water and stenter exhaust both carry heat that pre-warms incoming water and air. Where exchangers exist, verify they are clean and actually piped in; a bypassed exchanger saves nothing while looking like an investment on the asset list.
Schedule against the thermal curve
Machines that heat, cool and reheat between mismatched batches burn energy in the gaps. Sequencing light-to-dark shades and grouping compatible processes keeps vessels near temperature instead of cycling — a planning decision, not a machine setting.

Per-batch energy and water figures, logged next to shade and fastness results, turn efficiency into a quality parameter. Trends across months show which recipes, machines and shifts drift — and evidence beats exhortation in every mill we visit.
