Formwell Living Considered everyday things

About

A small studio making modular furniture for small homes, on one 300 mm planning grid.

We started with one wall that would not work

Formwell Living began in a 34 square metre flat in Northvale with a chimney breast, a radiator under the window and a door that opened inwards. Nothing in any catalogue fitted the wall that was left. So we drew a shelving system around a 300 mm module instead, had twelve of them cut, and sold eleven to people with the same problem.

What we make, and what we do not

We make modular furniture for small homes: pieces that come flat, go together with one hex key, and can be extended rather than replaced. We do not make bespoke joinery, we do not do hardwoods, and we do not pretend a flat pack is an heirloom.

Materials

Birch plywood from certified European forests, cut and edged at a mill four hours from the studio. Steel powder coated in three colours we have not changed since the first run, so a shelf bought today still matches one bought in 2019.

The people

Eleven of us: four in the studio, five in the workshop, two answering the phone. If you call during showroom hours you will speak to somebody who has built the thing you are asking about.

Guarantee

Ten years on furniture, five on lighting, and spare parts stocked for ten years from the day a product is discontinued.
