The sling is one piece of 3.5 mm vegetable-tanned hide, laced to the frame through hand-punched eyelets rather than glued or stapled, which means it can be re-tensioned or replaced without touching the wood. The arms are carved where they meet the rear legs so the two members appear to grow through one another; each pair is shaped as a set so the grain runs continuously around the corner. Vegetable-tanned leather is not sealed — it will pick up the colour of the room and the oil of your hands, and it will look better for it.
