PC-D400
A 400 kVA standby frame for plant rooms carrying motor starting and UPS load on the same bus.
At 400 kVA the sizing question stops being about running kW and starts being about what happens in the first two seconds. This frame is specified where a building has motor starting, variable-speed drives or a UPS rectifier sharing the bus with ordinary load, and where the voltage dip during a start has to stay inside what the connected equipment tolerates.
The standard alternator uses a two thirds pitch winding, which suppresses the third harmonic circulating in the neutral of a four-wire system. Where the non-linear share of the load is high, we quote a separately excited machine instead of a self-excited one, because a self-excited AVR loses its supply exactly when a distorted waveform makes it most needed.
Block load acceptance, voltage dip and recovery time are calculated for the specific step the installation presents, not for a nominal percentage. If the step exceeds what the frame accepts in one bite, we say so and propose either a larger alternator, staged transfer, or a soft starter on the offending motor.
The set is supplied on a bunded baseframe with anti-vibration mounts fitted. Cooling air, exhaust routing and fuel line sizing are shown on the general arrangement drawing issued with the quotation.
