Dust control is a system, not a device. The sites that stay inside their limits treat suppression as part of the process flow — applied where dust is made, not chased after it is airborne.
Suppress at the source first
Transfer points, crusher discharges and screen feed boxes make most of a plant’s dust. Fine mist at these points wets the material stream itself, so the dust never lifts. It takes far less water than washing down afterwards and keeps fines on the saleable pile.
Match droplet size to the dust
Coarse spray droplets push fine dust aside instead of capturing it. Fog and mist systems work because droplets near the particle size agglomerate with dust and settle. That is why a fog cannon covers a stockpile with a fraction of the water an open hose uses.
Mind the wind, meter the water
An oscillating cannon aimed with the prevailing wind covers double the area of one fighting it. Zone valves and timers keep water where work is happening — over-wet haul roads make mud, and mud makes its own problems on the weighbridge.
Keep the records inspectors ask for
Log suppression run hours, water use and any complaint dates alongside weather notes. When the site boundary question comes, a season of records answers it better than a demonstration on the day.
