Every serious drawing practice runs on the same quiet fuel. The Dozen covers 4H to 6B in even steps – hard points for layout and light structure, the middle grades that do most of the day’s work, and soft dark leads for shadow mass and final punch.
Leads are fine-ground and bonded to the cedar so points break less and sharpen clean. The barrels are plain unlacquered wood, stamped with nothing: grade is marked by a simple band of paint at the end, readable at arm’s length in a jar. Cheap enough to scatter around the house, good enough that you will collect them back.
