A Simple Care Routine for Bottles That Last

A Simple Care Routine for Bottles That Last

A good bottle is a ten-year purchase – but only with ten minutes of honest care a week. Skip it and even the best steel develops a history you can taste. Here is the routine our own studio runs.

Daily: rinse while it is easy

The day a drink dries inside a bottle is the day cleaning becomes a project. Rinse body and lid with warm water at the end of each day – ten seconds, done. Leave the lid off overnight so the interior dries; a sealed damp bottle is a science experiment by Friday.

Weekly: brush the places you cannot see

Once a week, take the lid apart as far as it goes and brush the thread grooves, valve seats and straw bores – the places residue actually lives. A body brush for the interior, a detail brush for the lid, thirty seconds each. If a lid cannot be disassembled for this, that is a design flaw, not your failure.

Monthly: the deep refresh

Coffee oils and tea tannins laminate slowly onto steel and glass. Once a month – or the moment water starts tasting of history – drop a cleaning tablet in warm water, wait twenty minutes and rinse. No scrubbing, no perfume, no trace of last month’s habits.

Never: the three bottle sins

Do not seal carbonated drinks in an insulated bottle – pressure and lids disagree violently. Do not run insulated steel through the dishwasher; the heat tires the vacuum seal years early. And do not store a bottle sealed and damp. Avoid those three and the bottle you own now is the bottle you will still own in a decade.
