From flat to focused: rebuilding foodpanda’s information architecture

2026å¹´4月19æ—¥ ·

One of the loudest complaints in food-delivery UX research is “I never know where to look first.” On the original foodpanda homepage every service — restaurants, groceries, daily commodities — was crammed into one flat row. Users had to read every label before they could decide.

FoodDash splits the world into three pill tabs at the top: Delivery, Grocery, Shops. Each tab is large, high-contrast, and immediately tells the user what world they are entering.

Why three tabs and not five?

Card-sorting tests with 14 Hong Kong students and office workers consistently grouped services into these three buckets. Adding a fourth ate cognitive budget without solving any task.

Mobile parity

The same three tabs persist on the mobile homepage. Combined with a bottom Home/Search/Orders/Cart bar, the user can complete every primary task with one thumb.
