Two habits and one rule of thumb will nearly double the life of any well-made candle — ours included.
Trim before every burn
Five millimetres of wick is the sweet spot. Longer wicks make big smoky flames that gulp wax; a trimmed wick burns slow, low and clean.
Respect the first melt pool
Wax has memory. On first light, wait until the pool reaches the vessel wall — usually two to three hours — or the candle will tunnel down the middle for the rest of its life.
Burn in sessions, not marathons
Cap sessions at four hours. Past that, the wick mushrooms, the flame grows and the fragrance burns off faster than it can throw.
Snuff, don’t blow
Blowing sprays wax and leaves a smoke plume that lingers longer than the scent. A snuffer ends the burn cleanly and keeps the wick centred for tomorrow.
