How to Draw the Perfect Salt Bath

How to Draw the Perfect Salt Bath

A salt bath is the cheapest renovation a bathroom can get – same tub, entirely different evening. Most people pour salts into cold water and wonder why the jar underwhelms. The order of operations is the whole secret. Here it is.

Salts go under running water

Add two generous scoops while the tap is still running, not after the tub is full. The agitation dissolves the minerals completely and carries the essential oil blend through all the water instead of leaving it floating in one fragrant corner. By the time the tub is drawn, the water should feel noticeably softer against the hand.

Warm, not scalding

Very hot water burns off the scent in the first ten minutes and rushes the bath. Aim for comfortably warm – the temperature you could hold a conversation in. The scent lasts the full soak and the botanicals give up their colour slowly, which is the show you paid for.

Twenty minutes, no phone

The soak works on the same schedule as the salts: slowly. Twenty minutes is the honest minimum – bring a book or bring nothing. A folded towel at the tub edge and a glass of cold water within reach are the two upgrades that cost nothing and change everything.

The strainer trick

Loose botanicals are lovelier in the water than in the drain. A simple mesh strainer over the plughole catches every bud and petal as the tub empties – rinse it into the compost and the plumbing stays as relaxed as you are. Rinse the tub warm, and the next bath starts clean.
