Where our gear units end up, and what tends to govern the selection in each sector.
The physics does not change from one plant to the next, but what governs the selection does. Here is what usually decides it, sector by sector.
Bulk material handling
Conveyor head drives, apron feeders, stackers and reclaimers. The load is nominally uniform but starting torque on a loaded belt is not, so service factors sit at 1.25 to 1.5 and backstops are routine. Shaft-mounted parallel and right-angle units on torque arms dominate because there is no baseplate to align and nothing to knock out of line when the structure moves. Frames: GU-K157, GU-F127.
Water and wastewater
Screens, clarifier and thickener rakes, aeration, screw pumps. Output speeds are very low, ambient is wet, and units frequently sit outdoors. IP66, synthetic fills and long service intervals matter more than headline efficiency, because nobody wants to change oil on a walkway over a tank. Frames: GU-K97, GU-S87.
Chemical and process
Reactor and blend vessel agitators. These are sized on bending moment and axial thrust at the mounting flange as much as on torque — a long impeller shaft in a moving fluid puts a load on the output bearings that a torque figure alone will never describe. Dry-well seal chambers keep the gear oil and the product apart. Frames: GU-A75.
Cement, aggregates and mining
Kilns, mills, crushers and heavy scrapers. Heavy shock duty at long hours, so the service factor does most of the sizing work and the frame ends up considerably larger than the nominal torque suggests. Split housings so bearings can be inspected without pulling the drive train apart. Frames: GU-X220, GU-K157.
Food and beverage
Washdown conveying, fillers, cappers and depositors. Quiet running, smooth surfaces, food-grade synthetic fills, and often a small enough envelope that the drive has to sit inside the machine frame. Frames: GU-S57, GU-H67.
Cranes, lifting and marine
Slew, travel and hoist drives, winches and deck machinery. Backlash matters for positioning, holding torque matters for safety, and salt matters for everything. Planetary units for torque density, split-housing industrial units where inspection access is part of the classification. Frames: GU-P305, GU-X220.
Packaging and converting
Small inline units built into machine frames, encoder-ready shaft ends, and enough ratio steps to hit an exact line speed. The drive is a component here rather than a machine in its own right, and it has to disappear. Frames: GU-H37.
