Description
End-grain boards are built like a brush: the wood fibres stand upright, so the edge slips between them and the surface closes behind it. That is why butcher blocks last generations and why a sharp knife stays sharp two or three times longer on this board than on bamboo or plastic – and forever longer than on glass, which we beg you never to use.
This block is solid walnut, 44 millimetres thick, heavy enough to stay planted through real work. Rubber feet lift it clear of counter moisture. Oil it monthly with board oil – the same ritual as the knives – and it will outlive the kitchen around it.
