Optical design
Every design is modelled and checked on computer before any glass is ordered, including an analysis of how manufacturing variation will affect the finished lens. The performance we quote is the performance the production line delivers.
Coating
Lens elements come from qualified suppliers and are coated in our own facility. We use only durable hard coatings, because they stand up to cleaning, humidity and years of factory service.
Precision mechanics
Lens barrels are machined from aluminium and finished to close tolerances. Focus and locking rings are designed so that a setting locked today can still be released and adjusted years later.
Cleanroom assembly
Final assembly takes place in a dust-controlled cleanroom. Each optical group is aligned and verified before it goes into the barrel.
Testing and acceptance
Every finished unit is measured on our own test benches against its published specification. The first units of every new design additionally go through temperature testing across the full operating range.
Custom work
Roughly a third of what we ship is a variation on a catalogue design: a different mount, a longer barrel, or a sealed version for washdown environments. A mechanical variant typically takes a few weeks; an all-new optical design takes several months.
