Commissions

Custom order slots open twice a year, in February and August. Twelve slots each time. There is no deposit until we have both agreed on the details.

How it works

1. The conversation. Tell us what you play, what you play it on now, and what you wish that instrument did differently. Recordings help more than adjectives. This normally takes two or three calls.
2. The specification. We write everything down: body size, neck shape, woods, finish and all the details. You get a copy. Nothing is ordered until you approve it.
3. The deposit. One third when you approve the specification, one third at the halfway point, the balance before it ships. If we cannot make the instrument work, we return everything paid.
4. The build. Eleven to sixteen weeks in the workshop, depending on the model. You get photographs at four points along the way so you can watch your guitar take shape.
5. The handover. Come and collect it if you can. If you cannot, it ships in a fitted hard case with a two-week approval window from the day it arrives.

What we will and will not do

We will adjust the neck shape, string spacing, body depth and every wood choice to suit you. We will build left-handed at no extra cost. We will fit a pickup system neatly and properly if you want to plug in.

We will not build a body shape we have never built before, use wood a customer supplies without testing it first, or take shortcuts on the finish. These are lessons we have learned the hard way, and they protect your instrument as much as our name.
