Each shelf runs into a housing in the upright and is held there by two pegs driven from the outside face. The pegs are the visible part of the structure rather than something to be hidden, so the end grain of sixteen of them reads as a column down each side.
It stands on its own feet. Nothing is drilled into your wall, which matters more than it sounds if you rent.
