Stanchion Base, 25 mm Socket

The four degree outboard angle matches typical topside flare, so the stanchion stands vertical rather than leaning in. Full-penetration weld at the socket-to-foot joint, then electropolished.

  • Full penetration weld at the highest stressed joint, not a fillet on the surface.
  • Electropolished after welding to remove heat tint, the usual starting point for corrosion.
  • Grub screw on the inboard face so the fastener is out of the wear path.
  • Available at 0, 4 and 7 degrees to match different topside flares.

Product Details

The base is the part of a guardrail system that fails, not the wire. A stanchion loaded sideways by a crew member falling puts a large bending moment into that weld, which is why we do not use a fillet weld here.

Specify the angle by measuring the topside flare at the stanchion position, not by eye. We will size it for you from a photograph with a level held against the hull.
