Guarding is more than a fence with a switch on the gate. Safe distances depend on how quickly the complete cell actually stops, and that has to be verified on the finished machine — not assumed from a datasheet.
Measured, not estimated
Stopping performance is measured on the commissioned cell, from interlock trip to complete standstill. The guarding layout is calculated from that measurement and recorded in the safety documentation.
Arc flash protection
Mesh alone does not stop ultraviolet radiation. Welding curtains and screens are fitted wherever an operator or passer-by could have a line of sight to the arc, including reflections that are commonly missed.
