Description

Dress belts are usually the worst leather in a wardrobe: bonded fibre with a printed grain, finished in high gloss to hide it. This one is the same bend we use for work belts, cut narrower and finished dark.

The finish

Hand-rubbed with a spirit dye, then burnished rather than lacquered. It has a low satin sheen that deepens with wear instead of flaking off at the fold.

Edges

Bevelled on both faces, sanded to 800 grit and slicked with beeswax. Run a thumbnail along them — that smoothness is the difference between a belt that ages and one that just wears out.
