Leather that keeps a record of where you have been

Cut, creased and saddle-stitched by hand on a single bench. We use only full-grain hides tanned with bark and time, so every piece darkens into a shade nobody else owns.

Repairs at cost

Bark-tanned hides only

Full-grain shoulders tanned slowly in oak and mimosa pits, never chrome. The hide stays breathable and takes on colour instead of cracking.

Saddle-stitched by hand

Two needles, one waxed linen thread, nine stitches to the inch. A machine lock-stitch unravels when it breaks; this does not.

Solid brass hardware

Cast, not plated. Buckles, rivets and snaps are sourced from two foundries we have used since the first year.

Repaired, never replaced

Send anything back at any age and we will restitch, re-edge or replace hardware at the cost of the materials.

The bench

One room, two benches, no shortcuts

We started in a rented corner of a furniture shop with a round knife, a stitching pony and a stack of shoulder hides. Sixteen years on the tools are the same, the room is a little larger, and the process has not moved an inch: cut, skive, glue, punch, stitch, burnish, oil.

  • Every piece is cut from a single hide so the grain runs true across panels.
  • Edges are sanded through four grits, dyed, and burnished with beeswax and a wooden slicker.
  • Nothing leaves the bench until it has been carried around the shop for a full day.

Leather & care

It will not stay this colour, and that is the point

Vegetable tanning leaves the hide open and alive. Sunlight, hand oils and rain pull it from pale straw toward deep honey over the first year. Here is all the maintenance it actually needs.

Let it darken

For the first month do nothing at all. Handling and daylight set the base tone; balm applied too early blotches it.

Wipe, do not wash

A dry cloth handles most of it. For a stubborn mark, a barely damp cloth and patience — never soap or solvent.

Feed it twice a year

A fingertip of neutral balm worked in with the palm. Leave it overnight, buff it back in the morning.

Dry it slowly

Caught in the rain, stuff it with paper and leave it away from radiators. Forced heat is what actually kills leather.
