Nobody needs a styled table on a Tuesday. But five minutes of intention turns the same weeknight dinner into something you sit down for – and handmade plates do most of the work unassisted.
Stack, do not spread
Formal settings spread pieces sideways; real tables stack. Dinner plate, salad plate, bowl on top – the height says dinner is happening, and everything is within reach when the food lands.
Cloth beats placemat
A washed linen cloth – wrinkles included – flatters speckled glazes the way plastic placemats never will. One neutral cloth carries every glaze in the cupboard.
One thing from outside
A stem in a bud vase, three lemons in a bowl, a branch from the walk home. One living thing per table; more becomes a centrepiece and centrepieces become clutter.
Let the pieces mismatch
Handmade ware is designed to differ. Alternate glazes around the table instead of matching each setting – it looks generous and hides nothing when a plate is in the wash.
