Every Kilnora piece takes about three weeks from wet clay to your table. This is what happens in between.
Thrown and trimmed
Each form is thrown on the wheel from weighed clay, rested overnight, then trimmed the next day while leather-hard. The concentric rings you feel on the finished piece are the throwing itself – we do not sand them away.
Glazed in-house
Our celadon, oatmeal and umber glazes are mixed from raw materials in the studio. Pieces are dipped by hand, which is why glaze pools deeper at a rim here and breaks pale over a ridge there. Every glaze is lead-free and tested food-safe.
Fired slow
Stoneware firings climb to 1,300 degrees over twelve hours and cool for a full day. The result is dense, vitrified ware that shrugs off the dishwasher, the microwave and a decade of daily use.
Seconds get a second look
Pieces with a glaze run or a kiln kiss that affects nothing but looks are sold as studio seconds at open days – never landfilled. Pieces with true flaws are ground back into the process.
