Description

The Fieldnote started as a bag for one customer who wanted somewhere to keep survey notes dry. Fifteen years on, it is the piece we make most often and the one that comes back least.

The body is a single wrapped panel — no seam across the base, which is where a satchel usually dies. Corners are wet-formed over a wooden buck and left to dry overnight so the shape holds without a stiffener. The flap is skived to half thickness at the fold so it falls closed under its own weight instead of springing open.

Inside

One full-width slip pocket against the back panel, one pen loop, and a divider that stops short of the base so you can still drop something long down the side. We deliberately left out zips: they are the first component to fail and the hardest to replace.

Wearing in

Expect the first three months to be stiff. Around month four the flap starts to remember its closed position, the strap softens where it crosses your shoulder, and the pale straw colour begins moving toward honey. By the end of year one no two Fieldnotes look alike.
