Description

A duffle is mostly a test of how well the maker understands stress. Everything a bag carries eventually hangs from two points, so the Harbour puts its handles on a continuous wrap that runs under the base and back up the far side. Nothing is holding the weight but the leather itself.

The base

Doubled 3.6 mm shoulder, glued grain-to-grain and stitched around the perimeter, with five solid brass feet set on copper rivets. It will sit on a station platform for years without wearing through.

The zip

We resisted a zip for a decade. This one is a heavy brass chain on a cotton tape, hand-set into a leather-bound channel so the teeth never contact whatever is packed against them. If it ever fails, send the bag back and we will replace the chain — the rest of the duffle will still be fine.
