  • Left and right specific, so the cushioning lands where your foot actually loads
  • Flat toe seam, joined rather than overlapped, so it does not sit on the toes
  • Ribbed band across the arch holds the sock still inside the shoe
  • Two pairs per pack, because one pair of running socks is never enough

What it is

A crew-height running sock, knitted left and right specific and sold in packs of two pairs. The knit is 180 gsm with a small amount of elastane. Cushioning is placed rather than uniform: there is a denser pile under the heel and across the forefoot, and a plain mesh across the top of the foot where cushioning would only add heat.

Why left and right

A foot is not symmetrical, and a sock knitted to a generic shape has to compromise on where the padding sits. Knitting a left and a right lets the heel pocket and the forefoot pad land where the load actually is. It also means the sock stops rotating around the foot over a long run, which is the usual cause of a blister under the arch.

Construction

The toe seam is linked flat rather than overlapped, so there is no ridge across the toes. A ribbed band runs across the arch to hold the sock in place inside the shoe. The cuff is a plain rib, firm enough to stay up without leaving a mark.

Care

Cold wash, hang dry. Turning them inside out first gets the grit out of the pile, which is what wears through a running sock long before the yarn gives up.
