Model IL-C60

Point a ring light at a polished surface and you photograph the light itself. Coaxial illumination solves this by sending light along the same axis the camera looks down.
A flat, shiny surface images uniformly bright. Any scratch, pit or mark scatters the light away and images dark. The contrast is close to black-and-white, which makes automated checking straightforward.
The internal beam splitter absorbs some light in each direction, so allow a wider aperture or a longer exposure than you would with direct lighting.
