The duty point

A pump is only as good as the point it runs at

Oversize a pump and it runs left of its best-efficiency point, where recirculation chews the impeller and the bearings pay for it. Undersize it and the system curve wins. We take the flow you need, the head your pipework actually costs you and the NPSH available at the suction, then trim the impeller so the duty point lands where the curve is flat and the efficiency is high.

Inside the casing

Follow one litre of water through the pump

Suction, impeller, volute, discharge. Four stages, and every one of them is a place where a badly chosen pump loses head it will never get back.

  1. 01 Suction Liquid enters the eye of the impeller with the NPSH margin the site actually has, not the margin the datasheet assumes.
  2. 02 Impeller Vanes add velocity head. The diameter is trimmed to your duty point rather than shipped at the catalogue maximum.
  3. 03 Volute The spiral casing converts velocity into pressure and balances the radial load the impeller throws at the shaft.
  4. 04 Discharge Pressure leaves through the flange, measured across the curve on the test rig before the pump is crated.

How it is built

Select

You send flow, head, fluid, temperature, solids and the NPSH available at the suction flange. We place the duty point on the published curve and tell you where it sits relative to the best-efficiency point — including when the honest answer is a different pump.

Cast and machine

Casings are poured to the material the fluid requires: grey iron for clean water, duplex or CD4MCu for seawater and chlorides, high-chrome for abrasive slurry. Wear rings, shaft sleeves and impeller clearances are machined to the drawing, not to a tolerance band.

Balance and assemble

Every impeller is dynamically balanced to ISO 1940 G6.3 before it goes near a shaft. Bearing housings are assembled clean, seals are set to the chosen API 682 plan, and the coupling is laser aligned on the baseplate.

Test and record

Each unit runs on a hydraulic test rig to ISO 9906 Grade 2. Flow, head, power and vibration are measured across the curve and recorded against the serial number, so the sheet in the crate describes that pump and not the model.
